Without any serious painting experience I started the two-year course on the Academy for Arts and Crafts, led by Lukas Stofferis, in 2013. During the course we were taught to paint using techniques of traditional craftmanship, whilst we could express ourselves in our own ways. From time to time we were given advise, but we ultimately decided what we wanted to paint. The main point was how we used the painting material in a correct way. Quite a lot of the painting techniques, which we were taught, have been sinking into oblivion, but thanks to this course these techniques have experienced some revival. But we did not stick rigorously to these classic painting techniques and during the course we had the opportunity to experiment with other possibilities of these old painting techniques. Like this, it became a combination of old and new techniques. I reflect with pleasure on the two years of the course, in which I have learned more than I would ever learn at other art institutes.
Lukas Stofferis is a good teacher, who has clearly a lot of know-how in his discipline and who is open to new ideas to increase his knowledge and to share this again with his students.
